FAQ – LED Indicator Resistors

Do I need resistors when installing LED indicators?

In many cases, yes. When you install LED indicators or LED turn signals, the flash rate can become too fast because LEDs use less power than standard indicators. LED indicator resistors help restore a normal blinking speed.

Why do LED turn signals flash too fast?

LED turn signals consume less electrical power than original halogen indicators. Some motorcycles detect this lower load as a faulty or missing bulb, which can cause fast flashing or hyper flashing.

What is the difference between LED indicator resistors and a flasher relay?

A flasher relay replaces part of the motorcycle’s original indicator system. LED indicator resistors add the correct electrical load to the circuit while keeping the original relay in place. For many custom builds, this is a simpler and safer solution.

Are resistors better than an LED flasher relay?

It depends on the motorcycle. Bonvent generally recommends resistors for compatible setups because they avoid replacing original electrical components. Poor-quality or incompatible flasher relays can sometimes cause dashboard warning lights or electrical issues.

Are these resistors plug & play?

Yes, they are plug & play when your LED indicators or motorcycle wiring use compatible 3.5 mm bullet connectors. No cutting or complex wiring is required in that case.

Where should I install the resistors?

They can be installed inside the headlight area for front LED indicators, or under the seat or side panel for rear LED turn signal connections.

Are these resistors universal?

They are suitable for many aftermarket motorcycle LED indicators with compatible 3.5 mm bullet connectors, but they are not guaranteed to fit every motorcycle or every indicator brand.
